The fine art of creating fused glass consists of stacking layers of different glass and fusing them together to create an individual piece. Typically, glass is melted in a special glass kiln at a temperature of 1400 degrees, and is used to create bowls, plates and wall hangings, tiles, water features.
Hennessey Designs, uses a variation of this firing process to liquefy the glass. At a kiln temperature of approximately 1800 degrees, she liquefies multiple colors of glass by dripping it from a special container into a cooling tray. This process, which can take 12-14 hours, yields a magnificent piece of uniquely colored glass.
Once the glass has cooled to touch, Helena uses a diamond blade saw to cut and slice the glass into various sized and shaped pieces. She then re-fires the individual glass pieces, producing fabulously unique jewelry, mirrors, pictures frames, tiles and more.
